by sharyn roberts
Aside from being a superb way to relax and unwind, massage is recognised as a legitimate therapeutic treatment by many medical practitioners and also by many insurance companies. Do you know what types of massage are covered by your medical insurance?
Depending on the extent of your health insurance "extras" cover, different types of physical and so-called natural therapies may be partly or fully covered by your medical insurance provider. As with most insurance "extras", the number of therapies covered will most often depend on the amount you are willing to pay. Even so, with the many differences between types of insurance coverage on offer, it’s worth shopping around to find the insurer and plan which cover the types of services you are particularly interested in.
Physical therapies such as Physiotherapy, Chiropractic and Osteopathy are usually covered as one type of service, with extensions such as group pilates and hydrotherapy sometimes included. Natural therapies include such as naturopathy, acupuncture and remedial massage will often be grouped as another covered service. Some insurers will also cover an extended range of natural therapies, such as myotherapy, reflexology, kinesiology, Chinese and Western herbalism, exercise physiology, shiatsu, aromatherapy, homeopathy, Bowen therapy and Alexander technique and Feldenkrais.
Maybe your favourite style of massage is covered by your health insurer.
