How to choose the right tyres for your car

Automotive: Automotive Parts, Tyres--Retail

Choosing the right tyres for your car is an important decision, as tyres are a significant financial investment and will impact on your ability to drive safely and comfortably, and will affect the ongoing optimal performance of your car. How can you choose the right tyres for your car?

A stack of car tyres.

Choose the best tyre you can afford

High quality tyres that are correctly fitted, aligned and regularly rotated allow your car to run at its peak, use less fuel and oil and need fewer tyre replacements. The benefits of choosing the right tyres will be evident at the time of car service.

Car type

It’s important to consider the type, make and model of your car when deciding on a particular type and brand of tyre. A new car will usually arrive with the manufacturer’s preferred brand and tyre type, so a good practice is to continue to purchase these tyres as replacements. Your vehicle’s manual will list recommended tyres, and you will usually find a tyre guide on the inside of the driver’s door.

Driving environment

It’s also important to consider the climatic conditions of the car’s driving environment, the types of roads or terrain on which the car will mostly be driven, whether the car will be driving in peak-hour city traffic or covering long distances on country roads.

The car dealership, your auto mechanic and local tyre sales centre will offer good advice on which tyres are best suited to your car.
