You will find information on industrial capacitors under this Yellow™ heading. A capacitor is a device used to store electricity. While a capacitor is similar to a battery, in that they both store electricity, a capacitor cannot product its own electrons. Capacitors consist of two internal terminals connected to metal plates. This is separated by a di-electric or a substance that is not able to conduct electricity but only store it. The process of storing energy in the capacitor is known as 'charging', and involves electric charges of equal magnitude, but opposite polarity, building up on each plate.
Along with resistors and conductors, capacitors make up the third important component of any electrical circuit. Capacitors have several functions and can be made in a variety of sizes. These, in turn, have the ability to produce a variety of different outputs. Alarm clocks, for example, house capacitors to assist with the powering function. Capacitors are also used in hybrid cars as a source of electricity. The key to a capacitor’s function is that the two terminals and plates are separated by a substance that is not able to conduct electricity. This substance is called the di-electric and it determines the capacity of the capacitor. This gives the ability to store electricity and use it as needed. Non-conducting materials can consist of air, glass, ceramic, etc.
Industrial capacitors are capacitors with very high charge and capacity. They are used in medium to large industries and are quite necessary as these industries cannot always depend upon cells to power their machines. Search with Yellow™ to find industrial capacitors in Australia.
