Some cargo shipment facilities provide “door-to-door” service, thus allowing for greater ease of transport.

Rates are based, in most cases, on weight, travel distance, time spent, or a flat fee. Fuel surcharges are often also implemented, so that the shipping company is able to make a profit from the service. The customer can also expect to pay additional fees for bulk or heavy items, which will utilise more space on the aircraft, and thus make the travel less cost efficient for the company concerned.
