Look under this Yellow™ heading for information on air or gas containment cylinders. An air or gas cylinder is used to contain pressurised gas for various uses. These are most commonly associated with tanks that hold oxygen, helium, propane, etc. For example, an individual that requires the use of home oxygen would have oxygen tanks delivered home to assist them with breathing or those using a propane grill would purchase a propane tank to fuel their grill.
Most air or gas containment tanks have warnings as to what precautions should be taken. For example, an oxygen or propane tank would have warnings on it indicating that the tank should never be punctured or taken apart. Doing so, would authorise rapid release of the compressed gas inside the tank, which could result in injuries. Other warnings also indicate the risk when exposing these cylinders to flame or heat which could produce an explosion from the rapid ignition of the gas inside the cylinder.
Most gas or air containment units can either be purchased or rented from a distributor. The purchaser may be required to provide a deposit for the actual empty cylinder, thus guaranteeing its return. Air and gas cylinders generally aren’t purchased outright, as there are certain limitations to their disposal when empty, thus making it difficult to remove them from one’s property. Some safety precautions when dealing with gas or air cylinders, are to store away from heat, open only with hands (no tools), and not to try to refill the cylinder by one’s self.
