Find information regarding apartments and flats under this Yellow™ heading. Apartments are multiple living areas set together in one building. This could be something as simple as a house broken down into two separate living areas, to a 500-unit apartment building complex. Flats are apartments on one floor of a building, whereas a regular apartment could consist of two or more floors. In most cases, an apartment consists of different rooms, such as a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc. Studio apartments are one-room apartments that house the kitchen, living area, bedroom, etc. in one seamless area.
Apartments and flats are generally rented out by an owner or landlord. The owner may charge a flat fee to rent the unit on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. In some cases, landlords choose to include utilities such as gas, electricity, and water with the tenant’s monthly payment. Tenants may also be required to provide a “security deposit,” to ensure that the apartment will be kept in the same condition as when the tenant first moved in. This deposit can be then used in case damages occur. A tenant also has the advantage of not having to worry about maintenance and wear-and-tear such as broken pipes, leaks, etc. for which the landlord is responsible.
An apartment building is typically a large building consisting of several floors, broken down further by individual apartments. Tenants are assigned a room number, which they could use as their address (i.e. 100 Apartment St., Apartment 100). In other cases, one apartment might take up an entire floor, in which case the room number would likely be their floor number.
