Information regarding archival and preservation services can be found under this Yellow™ heading. An archival service is a service that can properly store and protect certain documents, records, etc. This service can be effectively completed in different ways, including computer-based services, secure building locations, etc. Preservation services can also be offered in a variety of forms, for a variety of products. This, again, can be offered in several varieties and forms, to include physical preservation, chemical-based preservation, temperature-based preservation, etc.
Archival services are generally extended to individuals who may wish to archive records but do not have the room to do so. This can entail either a physical space or a virtual one. For example, a doctor’s office may have patient charts that are no longer with their practice, but that they wish to store. These charts can be stored either in a secure archival facility, or virtually (on the Internet), at a third-party location.
Preservation services are typically offered to individuals who wish to preserve an object from normal “wear and tear”. Normally a chemical-based process, this reinforces the physical makeup of the product to prevent it from deteriorating further. Additionally, machines are available that “freeze-dry” the product, thus suspending their life at the point of preservation.
