Information on balsa wood can be found under this Yellow™ heading. Balsa wood is an extremely light and flexible wood that comes from the balsa tree. The tree is generally found in South America, and can reach heights in excess of 100 feet. Balsa has several practical uses, in that the wood itself is extremely lightweight. It is also a very pliable material, and is able to withstand bending to a certain degree.
Balsa wood is commonly used in model building, due to its unique characteristics, and the fact that it is an extremely light wood. The wood itself holds glue very well, is able to be shaped by bending while being practically weightless.
Balsa wood is becoming scarce due to its limited availability. This type of modelling wood can generally be found at hardware or hobby stores, and is typically sold in strips.
