Diving Equipment & Supplies

About the Diving Equipment & Supplies heading in Yellow™

For information regarding diving equipment and supplies look under this Yellow™ heading. Diving equipment and supplies can be availed from dive shops and dive schools. Shops that hire or sell diving equipment and supplies often provide diving instruction and certification, as well. Because diving requires specialised equipment, aspiring divers and experienced divers alike need to be instructed on the use of the equipment. Improper use, handling, and maintenance of such equipment may be hazardous without proper education. Dive shops provide diving equipment from basic – such as snorkelling – to advanced diving equipment for open water diving and even cave diving.

Dive shops typically carry a multitude of equipment brands that customers can choose from. Shops will carry for sale items, but will also carry for hire equipment too. Some of the more basic items customers may avail of or hire include cylinders, regulators, diving suit (such as a dry suit or a wet suit), dive skins, shorty wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels, boots, weights, diving gloves, Buoyancy Compensator or Buoyancy Control Device (BCD or BC), compass, Torch/flashlight for low visibility or dark environments like night diving, wrecks and cave diving. Some even hire underwater camera and housing - for underwater photography or underwater videography. Dive shops will typically also offer full equipment servicing and repairs facility for all types of scuba equipment and offer air fills and oxygen cleaning.

Before any dive, individuals must undergo mandatory basic scuba training and acquire a dive certification. Scuba shops provide instructional courses such as introduction to diving, kids’ scuba, open water course, advanced open water, deep cavern, cave, and wreck diving. Aside from equipment and training, shops will typically provide scuba diving trips for groups called ‘diving runs.’ Diving runs can be as short as a regular half day, to full weekend trips.
