An electrical switchboard is a device which maintains or directs the flow of current from one point to the other. It is essentially an assembly of panels containing switches which work as valves, redirecting electricity. Inside the switchboard, there are numerous busbars (copper strips), where switch gears are connected.
The busbars allow flow of large electrical impulses and are generally bare and protected by insulators. The operator operates the insulated safety switches, placed on the outer surface of the board. The safety switches in turn operate the busbars, which in turn allows or disallows the flow of electricity through a specific channel. The switchboard also has a safety device called a fuse. The function of the fuse is to make sure that only electricity of a specific range is allowed into the switchboard. This device basically protects the switchboard from damage. Both the safety switches & the fuse protects the operator from getting electrocuted.
