For information on facsimile and TELEX communication services, look under this Yellow™ heading. Facsimile is derived from Latin words, it means ‘make similar’. A Scottish electrical engineer named Alexander Bain is credited with the invention of the facsimile or FAX machine. TELEX is a communications system, which comprises teletypewriters. These are in turn connected to a telephonic network for sending and receiving signals. Search with Yellow™ to find FAX and TELEX services in all states in Australia.
Facsimile or FAX machine is used to transmit printed-paper or documents from one location to another. This machine uses a regular phone line for the transmission of the documents. The FAX machine has a sensor that reads the paper or document. Standard methods are used to encode the black and white areas of the paper. These codes are then transmitted through the telephone line to the recipient. At the recipients end, there is a special type of mechanism that marks the paper.
TELEX is a telegraphic message-transfer service. This service comprises a network of teleprinters. If you are a subscriber to a TELEX service, then you can send and receive textual data. By using a teleprinter’s keyboard, the destination call number is typed and a communication channel is opened. A message is typed, which is then converted into an electrical signal and passed on to the destination teleprinter. At the destination, the message is then printed or stored in some other repository. In the banking and brokerage sectors, TELEX messages are used to electronically confirm high-value transactions.
