Search for family planning centres under this Yellow™ heading. Family planning centres located all over the country conduct health promotion programs, train health professionals, and even undertake research. Largely non profit organisations, these centres are set up to help you with all your sexual and reproductive health needs. They are totally confidential and are open to everyone, irrespective of age, sex, or race. Most consultations are at no cost, however, it is recommended to phone to make an appointment or to find out about timing and costs. Many centres invite a small once-a-year donation to help continue providing quality services. Family planning centres offer advice and supply on all forms of contraception for men and women, Pap tests and breast checks, pregnancy tests, help with menstrual problems and menopause, vasectomy referrals, checks and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, information on fertility, sterilisation, sexual problems, pregnancy, menopause, referral to other health and welfare providers, and community information and health promotion activities.
The staff at a family planning centre is trained to give you all possible assistance to make relevant and informed choices about your health and well-being. Their health promotion teams aim to improve and maintain the reproductive and sexual health of our community. This is done through a wide range of professional and community-based services with specific expertise in HIV/AIDS and heterosexual men, women and people with an intellectual disability, puberty and adolescent sexuality, anti-homophobia, sexuality for people with a disability, including the implications of the Disability Services Act; and multicultural sexuality. There are also professional education services available for a range of professions, including teachers, youth workers, disability workers and service managers, social workers, and carers.
Facilities available are rigorously inspected to ensure that they meet with the very highest standards and care delivery. The highly trained and experienced medical and nursing staff deliver the best possible individualised care. Most centres also have a bank of print and audio-visual resource production, particularly multicultural and low-literacy materials.
