If you’re searching for information on slide and / or snap fasteners, try reading this Yellow™ heading. A slide fastener is a device that is used to close a piece of clothing or other similar item. This is done by sliding the fastener in a particular direction, either up or down, which brings together to two separate ends of the fastener. A snap fastener is used for similar purposes, but works in a fashion that allows the individual to snap two opposite ends together to close the garment or other item. Slide and snap fasteners come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and are commonly used on clothing to keep it closed. A coat, for example, might employ the use of a fastener to keep it closed during cold days.
One example of a slide fastener is a zipper. Zippers use two opposing ends of a design, which are generally made from plastic or metal, and are secured together by a small piece which is attached to the zipper. The two opposite ends represent teeth, and are fitted together when the slide is raised or lowered. Zippers are very popular on coats, sleeping bags, and other similar items that require closure of fabrics. Unlike snaps, the zipper gives you full closure of a coat, ensuring that you keep warm on the coldest of days.
Snap fasteners work in a similar fashion, and are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Buttons are one form of a snap fastener, and secure two opposite ends of a garment by ‘clicking’ one side of the button into the other side. Generally, if one is wearing a coat, they can expect several buttons on it, as the button does not provide full closure from top to bottom, but rather a certain portion of the garment.
