If you’re interested in information on Graphite, try checking out this Yellow™ heading. Graphite is a mineral that is used for several purposes of our day to day lives. The mineral itself is a semi-soft substance is classified just about an anthracite, and is actually considered to be in the coal family. Graphite is used in things such as pencils, cars, and even to conduct electricity. The mineral graphite is a black substance, and closely resembles coal in it’s raw physical nature. Although it is related to coal, as well as looking like it, it is generally not used for the same purposes as coal, as it is difficult to light on fire.
One of the most common uses of the mineral graphite is in pencils. In earlier days, lead was used in pencils, but was deemed as a hazardous substance if misused, and consequently was replaced by lead. In most cases, even today, individuals still refer to the graphite contained within a pencil as lead. Graphite, given that it is a semi-soft substance, produces a marking when pressed onto paper, thus making it able to be used in pencils.
Another common use of graphite is in the brake linings on your car. Again, given the fact that the substance is both soft and hard at the same time, it’s able to be used to help stop your car. Of course in time the graphite wears out, just as it does in a pencil, and needs to be replaced. This is why you replace the brake linings on your car every so often, or otherwise as they require. Graphite has several purposes, on of the most interesting of which is that it can serve as an electricity conductor. For more information on graphite, visit Yellow™.
