Find information regarding nurses and nursing services under this Yellow™ heading. A nurse is a health care professional whose job is to assist in the treatment and recovery of people suffering from illnesses or injuries. Nurses need to have a Bachelor of Nursing degree or at least an associate degree. They may also pursue a Master’s degree to further their career and specialisation. Nurses may join associations which can help place them in the right jobs and provide nursing services to public or private health care facilities.
Nursing students get to have a lot of clinical practice in simulated environments where they can apply what they learn. They may also have clinical experience in general hospitals, smaller hospitals, nursing homes, community health services, and rehabilitation centres. After graduation, they become eligible to apply for a licence before they practice nursing. Nurses may further their careers by taking classes in specialised fields such as maternal and child care, intensive care, mental health, rehabilitation and others.
Nurses may join agencies who can place them in any of the currently available nursing jobs in different health care facilities. There are nursing jobs that focus on specific types of health care and departments such as emergency, intensive care, neonatal intensive care, paediatrics, midwifery, surgery, mental health, aged care, oncology, and renal/dialysis, among others. These agencies will recommend to the hospital or health care facility administrator the nurse with the right skills and experience to fill the requirements of the position. Additionally, agencies may help one get a nursing job abroad for short or long term contracts. They may also give nurses jobs outside their day to day shift work. These jobs include clinical teaching, research, immunisation programs, homecare, and rural contracts.
