Look under this Yellow™ heading for information on edible oils. There are many edible oils that can be used for different cooking purposes. These oils are made from and extracted from certain vegetables and animals. Edible oils are not only used in everyday home cooking but also in gourmet dishes in restaurants. They are used for frying and flavouring. Some of these oils like fish oil and flaxseed oil contain omega 3, an essential fatty acid. Popular edible oils are olive oil, canola oil, and sunflower oil.
There are many different edible oils that can be bought from supermarkets. These are olive oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, palm oil, coconut oil, soybean oil, peanut oil, and cottonseed oil. Blends of these oils are also done by manufacturers. Edible oils come in many forms. There are deep frying oils, deep frying compounds, solid oils, sprays, margarine, and table spreads. Sprays are used to grease a pan or a baking dish in order for the food not to stick to the surface of the pan or dish. There are also flavoured oils such as grape seed oil, hazelnut oil, sesame oil, walnut oil, and extra virgin olive oil infused with lemon, chilli, rosemary, or orange.
Olive and canola oils can be used as a salad dressing. These are healthy because of their low saturated and polyunsaturated fat content. Olive oil also does not have additives and have negligible acidity. Manufacturers of edible oils sell their products to groceries, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and cafes. They can deliver frying and culinary oils in bulk tankers or in litre metal drums. These manufacturers commonly have fats and vegetable spreads, too.
