Find information on orthodontists under this Yellow™ heading. Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry concerned with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic treatment can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons—improving the general appearance of patients' teeth and face—but treatment is often prescribed for practical reasons, providing the patient with a functionally improved bite. Orthodontists usually work with dentists and provide services such as bonding, cosmetic contouring, crowns and bridges, specialty dentures, cosmetic fillings, grafts, excessive or uneven gums, and implants.
Orthodontists work with dentists and very often are licensed dentists themselves with a thriving dentistry practice. Like general dentists, they provide cosmetic and general dentistry services, restorative dentistry, oral hygiene, and emergency dentist services though they usually stress their specialization in orthodontics. Part of the general dentistry services they provide include laser decay detection, no drill micro-air abrasion, white fillings, wisdom teeth, root canal treatment, mouthguards, grinding or clenching teeth. Restorative dentistry includes CEREC, crowns and bridges, permanent implants. Cosmetic dentistry includes, teeth whitening, veneers, and bonding.
They also provide specialised children's dentistry/orthodontics. Part of children’s dentistry is taking special care to make younger patients feel more comfortable. Surgery is as child friendly as possible, some clinics even have a PlayStation in the waiting area and practitioners trained to help allay the concerns of the child. The occasional reward is also given, and sometimes they can even watch a DVD while being treated. Other services include dentures fitting including partial dentures, pregnancy dental care, pre-natal and post-natal care, braces (orthodontia), bridges, crowns, root canal therapy, jaw/TMJ, and maxillofacial surgery.
