  • Why Murwillumbah Physiotherapy?

As members of the Australian Physiotherapy Association we undertake mandatory continuing education courses. Because we are accessing the latest information we can treat you more effectively giving you more ways to move well and stay well.

  • Why Pilates at Murwillumbah Physiotherapy?

Our Clinical Pilates classes are designed for a small group to ensure optimal supervision. We have introduced an innovative approach to our classes by screening all new participants with real time ultrasound. You will actually be able to watch your inner muscles (transversus abdominis, multifidus and pelvic floor) contracting during exercise. Each participant will also be equipped with a pressure biofeedback unit to enhance specificity in recruitment and training of the core muscles.

  • What is Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is a form of physical exercise that focuses on posture, core stability, balance, control, strength, flexibility, and breathing. Although Pilates can be extremely beneficial for patients with certain injuries it needs to be specific to the individual and not used as a generic tool for everyone. Clinical Pilates identifies this key issue by applying carefully selected exercises for people with specific injuries.

  • Why Clinical Pilates as opposed to Generic Pilates?

We have chosen the Clinical Pilates model of exercise because it emphasises the teaching of pathology specific exercises and through the addition of real-time ultrasound and pressure biofeedback we ensure optimal gains whilst minimizing the likelihood of injury aggravation. It is often used in conjunction with physiotherapy as a means of treating a variety of injuries, particularly those of the neck and back.

  • How do I make an appointent?

Appointments for Physiotherapy treatment may be made by telephoning our receptionist. We will usually be able to schedule appointments for the same or the following day. However, we will always attempt to treat patients in severe pain immediately. The initial consultation usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes and any subsequent consultations from 20 to 30 minutes.
