I never give five stars for anything so it's on this rare occasion I'm giving the Park Hyatt five. We stayed for a long weekend recently and I've decided it's currently Australia's best metropolitan hotel, in my eyes anyway. Firstly the location is just spectacular, right on the harbour with the Opera House across the water on one side the and the harbour bridge on the other. The Hyatt has recently had a major refurbishment (last two years) so the decor is modern, comfortable and very well maintained. Our room was of the Opera House which is really a must if you're going to spend the money. The rooms are nicely appointed and very quiet when the sliding door is closed. We were also nicely surprised with the quality of its restaurant. I'm not one for dining at hotel restaurants (usually overpriced, average food with 2nd rate service) but at the Park Hyatt it couldn't have been more different. It was raining and we couldn't be bothered walking too far for lunch so tried it out. And couldn't be happier, the food was excellent, the service friendly and efficient and of course the view across the harbour stunning - even on a rainy day.
Overall a great 'special weekend' away - if you scrape the cash together or have a bunch of Hyatt points like we did then this is a terrific way to spend it.
