Are electric toothbrushes better than the manual brushes?

If you brush incorrectly, it doesn't matter what kind of toothbrush you use. Using the manual toothbrush with good knowledge of how to brush can do just as well as using a power toothbrush. Flossing is just as important as brushing teeth. Food trapped between teeth is the major cause of tooth cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.

How to eliminate bad breath?

Brushing and flossing properly are the simplest way to eliminate bad breath. Cleaning of back surface of the tongue with a tongue scraper daily is also necessary to minimize bacteria that accumulate inside our mouths as well as using a special mouth-rinse to kill off some anaerobic bacteria that causes bad breath. If the bad breath persists, it is recommended to see a dentist as tooth decay or gum disease may be the cause.

Why do I have bad breath?

Bad breath, also known as "halitosis" is caused by certain types of bacteria. These bacteria normally live on the back of the tongue and around the teeth, especially when a white coat is present on the back surface of the tongue. Certain foods, such as garlic and onions, also contribute to bad breath odour. When the food is absorbed into the bloodstream, it is transferred to the lungs and here it is expelled.

I have a missing tooth - should I have the gap closed?

Your teeth support and rely on each other. When one or more teeth are missing, the remaining teeth can shift out of their normal position. In some cases it is important to try to replace any missing teeth in order to balance the way your jaw bites. If you have several missing teeth, the remaining teeth are under more pressure, which can lead to broken fillings or even jaw problems.

My tooth is aching - what is the best solution?

If you are suffering a very persistent toothache it is always a sign that you need to see a dentist as soon as possible. However, in the meantime, rinsing the mouth with water as well as trying to clean out debris from any obvious cavities can obtain temporary relief. Dental floss can be used to remove any food that might be trapped within the cavity (especially between the teeth). A cold compress should be placed to the outside of the cheek if swelling is present (DO NOT HEAT).

I have knocked out tooth - what do I do?

If the tooth is dirty, the tooth is to be rinsed in milk holding it by the crown (not roots). If milk is not available use water (few seconds only) or have patient suck it clean, then place the tooth back in the socket. If the tooth cannot be replanted, wrap in Glad Wrap, place it in milk, or in the patient's mouth inside the cheek, then as time is critical for successful replanting, PLEASE COME AND SEE US within 30 minutes if you can.
