It's completely normal to have a million questions as you investigate care for your child. Visiting a centre is the best way to decide. It's impossible to get a sense of an early learning centre from a brochure or website. You really need to talk to the educators, see the rooms and facilities and experience the feel of the centre. Early Learning

Play-based learning is one of the foundations of early learning Goodstart has implemented at its centres around Australia. It fully engages children in activities where they can show what they've learned & are trying to understand. At Goodstart, children enjoy a wide variety of activities within a flexible daily routine to ensure their day is not just fun, but acts as a 'teachable moment in time'.

Qualified People

All centre staff (with the exception of our dedicated cooks and administration personnel) are required to hold, or be studying towards, a Certificate III in Children's Services.Room Leaders must have achieved a minimum of a Diploma in Children's Services, while each centre will also need to have Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teachers by 2014.

Why is early learning important?

Research shows us that children who start ahead tend to stay ahead. Significant differences in children's development are evident by age two and have a tendency not to close over time. The early years provide the foundation for the rest of a child's life. Children are born ready to learn and the best learning happens in nurturing, positive, stimulating environments. By creating these environments, we're providing the best opportunities for children to fulfil their potential

What is the difference between 'daycare' or 'childcare' and 'early learning'?

For those in the sector, the difference is more than just words - 'daycare' or 'childcare' gives the impression that the service we provide is simply 'care'. It's much more than that: it's care plus education. Early learning captures the essence of what Goodstart is all about - nurturing and stimulating environments that inspire a love of learning.

What ages does Goodstart cater for?

Age groups can vary from centre to centre, but generally we cater for children aged from six weeks old to school age. You can find out more about age groups at your local centres by using the 'Find a Centre' tool on our website.

Do the children receive meals?

At many centres we provide morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and sometimes breakfast and a late snack where required. Centres that provide food have their own cook creating fresh, healthy meals for the children. A nutritious diet is vital for children's development, so we make sure to provide meals that give children all the nutrients and energy they need. Children love to eat together, so the meal times at a centre are always fun!

How do I enrol at a Goodstart Early Learning centre?

When you enrol at a Goodstart Early Learning centre, we'll support you every step of the way. Our Centre Directors will invite you to take a tour of the centre first so you can see where your child will be cared for and to ensure you are comfortable with your decision. They will then provide you with an enrolment pack that contains everything you need to know about the centre and your child's routine and a quote for your daily fees. We encourage you to ask as many questions as you like.

Can I enrol online?

We don't offer online enrolment because its so important for families to see the centre firsthand. A tour is your chance to meet the staff and discuss your needs one-on-one with your Centre Director. They'll then be able to help with your enrolment and settling in your child.

How much does it cost to send my child to a Goodstart Early Learning centre?

Daily fees vary from centre to centre, and for individual families depending on how many days your child is in care, and what room they are in. You may also be eligible for government subsidies that will make a difference to your fees. Talk to your local Centre Director for a quote. Use the 'Find a Centre' tool on our website to seek out your local centre.

What government rebates and benefits are available to families?

There are two main subsidies offered by the Australian Government for which you may be eligible. These are the Child Care Rebate (CCR) and the Child Care Benefit (CCB). Just speak to Centrelink to find out if you are eligible for either of these subsidies and to what amount.

What is the Child Care Benefit (CCB)?

The CCB is a payment provided by the Australian Government that covers 24-50 hours of childcare per week. Eligible parents or guardians must: - Meet Australian residency requirements - Be enrolled/enrolling in an approved early learning centre (Goodstart is one of these!) - Meet child immunisation conditions. The amount of CCB you receive varies depending on your income, type of care, amount of care, number of children in care, and whether or not you pass the work, trainin

What is the Child Care Rebate (CCR)?

The CCR is an assistance program designed to help working families with the cost of childcare. The rebate covers 50 per cent of out-of-pocket expenses not covered by the CCB (up to $7,500 per year per child). In other words, it will help to bridge the gap between your total weekly fees and the amount CCB covers.
