Electricity suppliers will also provide power to small and medium businesses, industrial sites and large commercial businesses. Domestic energy and will have at least some form of Renewable Energy available.
Retail electricity suppliers will provide their customers with competitive rates for the supply electricity and often gas. Most electricity suppliers will also offer a range of accredited "green" power products, most often where the supplier purchases renewable energy on behalf of the customer. Many electricity suppliers will also provide a range of complimentary services, which include advice and tools to help our customers better manage their energy consumption.
Electricity suppliers may also generate and transmit electricity and will therefore operate multibillion dollar portfolios of energy generation and storage facilities including coal, gas and wind assets. Electricity generation facilities using coal, gas and wind are spread across Australia.
Some electricity suppliers provide power across Australia, whilst other provide within a local grid. Demand management is an important consideration when assessing a localised supplier, as most local suppliers do not have their own generation and transmission facilities and therefore cannot control generation levels. Demand management for these suppliers involves either the moderation of customer electricity demand at peak times or the supply of additional electricity from generators connected at customer's premises.
