Motor body trimming is a trade that involves the manufacturing, repairing, and installation of all carpets, panels, upholstery, hoods, lining covers, and canopies of all types of motor vehicles.
Automotive trimming, also known as automotive upholstery, is primarily carried out as part of the production line construction of motor cars and motor trimming of new vehicles. Many automotive trimmers now work either in automotive design or with aftermarket motor trimming shops, carrying out repairs, restorations or conversions for customers directly. Motor body and vehicle trimmers can work in a variety of materials including canvas, carpet, cloth, leather, rubber, velour and vinyl. Motor trimmers can repair, retrim and replace most upholstered car interior components, fittings and accessories. These components include canopies, carpets, convertible tops, dashboards, dicky seats, floor mats, leather seats, motorbike seats, race seats, reproduction door trims, roof linings, seat covers, seats, steering wheels and tonneaus.
Motor body trimmers can offer custom conversion of entire motor vehicle interiors, to allow the customer total control over the look and feel of their vehicle interior. In addition to cars, motor body trimmers will work with boats, trucks, buses and motorcycles. Specialist automotive trimmers can work with particular makes of car, or only with classic and vintage cars.
