Widely considered to be one of the most important and challenging things a person can do, being a parent is also one of the most rewarding.

For some, conceiving a baby is as natural and easy as breathing. For others, it requires a little more patience and effort. The rewards speak for themselves though, when a healthy baby is delivered, adopted or fostered, and parenting truly begins.

From a local GP, to mothers groups, or literature in parenting books or parenting websites, advice and information are at your fingertips. There are several parenting topics of interest to young mums and dads. The primary concerns are basic human needs, like food, shelter and sleep. Beyond this, however, are: behavioural patterns, socialisation, good nutrition, health and safety, learning and development, special needs.

The nuclear family of a mum, a dad, and 2.5 children is soon becoming a thing of the past. Primary care-givers take on parenting roles in a family unit are recognised as parents. The family in which a child is raised plays a vital role in the person they grow up to be. For this reason, parenting techniques are an important focus in the community.

Making time to do fun, educational, and even mundane things as a family. This creates an atmosphere of development and stability.

Share household responsibilities. Between parents and children, as they get older. This encourages responsibility and reward.

Show positive reinforcement. Supporting good behaviour is generally much more productive and valuable than punishing mistakes.
