Carpet provides wonderful comfort making it a great choice for bedrooms, living areas, and also has the advantage of being a very good heat and noise insulator. Ultimately your carpet should suit the way you live your life, your home and your family.

With all of that choice, picking the right carpet for you can be a daunting task. So that you're making an informed decision these are some of the factors most people consider:

  • Colours
  • Style
  • Fibres - loop pile, cut pile or combination

Vinyl

Vinyl flooring is a flexible, practical & hardwearing floor covering that is easy to care for, simple to clean and can be very cost effective. As such it makes a great choice for areas for many kitchens, bathrooms, toilets and laundries.

Current vinyl flooring will often replicate authentic designs from

  • Wood flooring
  • Ceramic tiles
  • Natural stones and
  • Slate

There are slip resistant vinyl ranges to help prevent slips and falls, giving greater safety particularly for the elderly or wet areas.

Timber & Laminate

Timber floors are made with a layer of solid timber on the top of a HDF core and are laid over top of your existing floor. The planks come pre-finished with lacquers, meaning no smells and waiting around,

Laminate flooring is also a type of "floating" floor that has a layered system with an HDF core, but here the top layer is actually a photograph. Laminate is much harder to mark than solid wood and stains can be removed with a specialist cleaner.

What is the difference between laminate and timber flooring?

Timber flooring is made with a real timber layer on top of a HDF core & offers all the advantages of traditional flooring without the dust and coating fumes associated with solid timber installations. However if you love that timber floor look but are concerned about durability, or budget, there are laminate floors. They are shaped like timber flooring but the top layer is actually a photograph. They are beautiful but also very tough and easy to clean. Perfect if you have a busy family & pets.

I'm renovating my home, when should I get the carpet done?

The floor is often called the fifth wall of a home as it takes up a huge amount room in your home. As such many people choose their carpet first when deciding on their colour schemes and then base their paint schemes around that. The reason this works is that there are thousands of paint colours and it is easy to find a shade that matches your carpet. Even if you decide on your carpet early on, it should be installed as the last thing you do when renovating so that it doesn't get damaged.

I'm renovating my home, when should I get the carpet done?

The floor takes up a huge amount of your home. And while it may make sense to choose your carpet early on at the same time as the rest of your decorating decisions, it is best to have your carpet laid as the last thing you do when renovating.

What are the advantages of upgrading my underlay?

The underlay that you place under your carpet can both help make your floor feel fabulous underfoot but also help to insulate your floor. Houses lose up to 10% of their heat through the floor and quality underlay will not only keep your home warmer, make it feel great but also help your investment in your carpet last longer. And remember it doesn’t cost more to install better underlay so it is always best to install the best your budget allows.
