High Tea at the Windsor is probably the best one available in Melbourne and well worth checking out.  The hotel itself is very elegant, first class and the building is beautiful.  The staff are also extremely professional.  If you're visiting Melbourne a stay at the Windsor is highly recommended and if you're a local still pop in for high tea or to just grab a drink and soak in the atmosphere.

High tea at the Windsor really is something special. The staff great you and make you feel so special. You can start with a sparkling wine and then get served a selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes. You even get an open buffet dessert. If you are looking for something  special to do, I highly recommend you go.

If you are travelling during rush hour add about 10 or 15 extra minutes. There is a secondary airport at Avalon from which a few domestic flights arrive and depart. Travel time to and from Avalon is about one hour. Add 10 to 15 minutes during rush hour. Private jets fly in and out of Essendon Airport, which is about 20 minutes from the hotel.

Parliament House, Treasury Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens, Captain Cooks Cottage, The MCG, Collins Street shopping, the Paris end of Collins Street, Collins Place, Chinatown, Federation Square, St Patrick's Cathedral, Carlton Gardens, Melbourne Museum, and The Royal Exhibition Buildings are all within a few blocks of the hotel.

Is tipping the custom in Australia?

Tipping is not the norm in Australia although it is becoming more common, with patrons regularly tipping in fine dining restaurants. In general you should not feel obligated to tip but if you receive excellent service that you feel is worthy of a tip, your gesture would be welcomed and appreciated.
