  • What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare profession concerned with human function and movement. Physiotherapists are highly trained in the assessment, diagnosis and management of conditions that affect the joints, muscles, neurological and skeletal system. Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists, use a variety of techniques, including joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapies and exercise based programs to assist with correcting & restoring correct movement & function.

  • Do I require a referral for physiotherapy treatment?

A Doctors referral is not required to access treatment at Melton Melton Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine Clinic as a private patient. A referral is only required if you are claiming your treatment through a Workers Compensation or Motor Vehicle Accident claim or Department of Veterans Affairs.

  • What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

A referral is not required to see our Physiotherapists, however if you have a referral from a specialist or any previous x-ray films or investigations please bring these along. This will assist our physiotherapists to diagnose & treat your problem as accurately as possible. It can be useful to bring a change of clothing, this will depend on the area of the body you are having assessed. There may be other items your physiotherapist will request you bring once you have had your first appointment.

  • What can I expect from my first visit?

Your first visit will be used to assess and diagnose the cause of your pain or dysfunction, and to create a treatment plan to assist in the resolution of your problem. You can expect your treatment to begin in this first session, however for more complicated conditions it is important that your Physiotherapist performs a thorough assessment. On occasions this may mean that initial treatment is limited in this first session and will begin on your second visit.

  • How often will I be required to attend physiotherapy?

The number of treatments required is dependent on the injury. This is influenced by the severity of the injury and whether it is acute or chronic. As our Physiotherapists strive to individualise treatment plans to the person and will treat as appropriate, we are therefore unable to give this information until you have been assessed by your Physiotherapist. You should expect a treatment management plan after this first consultation.
