Will the carbon cost component change?

Carbon costs being charged to customers will be reviewed six monthly and adjusted to reflect any changes to costs incurred by Kleenheat. Kleenheat will notify its customers when adjustments to carbon costs will occur. Where possible, Kleenheat Gas will be looking to reduce greenhouse emissions and potential impacts to its customers.

I thought LPG was a clean burn, it didn't emit any gases? Help me better understand this?

LPG is considered a "clean" fuel because it does not produce visible emissions. When combustion of LPG occurs there are emissions produced but are lower than other fuels. The government has used an emissions factor which is comparably lower to other fuels which is reflected in the calculation of the effective carbon price imposed on LPG.

What is the Carbon Pricing Mechanism?

In November 2011, the Federal Government passed legislation (the Clean Energy Act and associated legislation) introducing a carbon pricing mechanism with effect from 1 July 2012. Under the scheme a carbon price will apply to certain greenhouse emissions. What this means for Kleenheat Gas and its customers, is an increase in the cost of both LPG and LNG.

How will the carbon costs be shown on the customer's invoice?

The carbon costs will not be shown separately on the customers invoice; it will be incorporated in the product price. The excise charge will continue to be shown separately on the invoice.

When will customers be charged the carbon component?

The carbon costs will be effective from 1 July 2012.
