Relationship counselling: did you succeed?
Index
Like all things in life, it’s way too easy to give up when the going gets tough. But with nothing more important in life than the one’s we love, it’s important not to give up up relationship counselling.
But how do you know when it’s been a success?
Marriage or relationship counselling is considered a success when you are empowered as a couple to take good and constructive action on your own behalf.
At the end of the counselling sessions you will be better able to manage your personal circumstances and enjoy a greater sense of personal power to influence the events in your own life. Not only that, but you’ll have an enhanced emotional tool kit to help you make decisions whenever future problems arise.
The success of counselling for a couple depends on how they define "success". This can be trickly as evidence suggests that many women go into couples therapy wanting change, while men seek to preserve the status quo.
Consequently, a positive outcome for one may not be a positive outcome for the other. So it’s important to agree on what you want to accomplish before you head to therapy sessions. By communicating clearly with your counsellor and with each other you will be able to gauge when you have reached a satisfactory outcome.
