Land clearing and bush fire safety
Index
As events in recent years have shown, property and land can become the victim of bush fires. However, one way of insuring against damage is by land clearing and the removal of flammable materials around the home.
Clearing away flammable materials from your property can be as simple as cleaning the leaves from the guttering. However, there are times when more heavy duty equipment is needed and this is where an excavator may be needed. Earth moving contractors don’t just move earth, they can also clear away shrubs and trees, stripping back any flammable materials close to your property.
Following the bush fires in Victoria in 2009, some rural councils relaxed the rules around land clearing, allowing residents to remove trees and other vegetation without permission from local government. However, this may not be the case in your area and an excavating contractor may be able to tell you what you can and can’t do.
Once you have found out what can be cleared, an excavator may be able to remove tree stumps, shift rocks, clear out dead wood and generally clear the property of any build up of material that may prove hazardous in the event of a bush fire.
An earth moving contractor who specialises in clearing land for bush fire safety will be able to advise you what equipment will be needed and how much it’s likely to cost. Getting on to the right person for the job is half the battle, and once you have, you’ll feel safer knowing that you have done what you can to avert the possibility of bush fire damage.
