Index
Rather than buy another tool, chances are the perfect gift would be giving the shed a good clear out. But he won’t see it that way, honest. Here are our suggestions for gifts we think will appeal to the handyman with everything.
Design tools
DIY dads love plotting and planning. If his dreams no longer fit on the back of an envelope, consider helping his creative urges with some high quality planning tools. Carpentry aids
Perhaps your Dad loves to potter around the house and fix things up here and there. A laser tape-measure is incredibly useful and practical – and you won’t have to stand there and hold the end of it while he measures up, so added bonus. Alternatively, a stud-finder will help him to hang a shelf with ease. Head to your local hardware store to find more.
Safety gear
A lot of home handymen disregard safety gear – so it’s not surprising that there are so many injuries among DIYers. In Victoria alone, 2000 people are seriously injured annually while carrying out DIY. Read more about the dangers of DIY here. Get him some noise cancelling headphones, safety goggles and work gloves to show him you care.
Paint sprayer
If your Dad loves to keep everything looking spick and span, a paint sprayer is a great tool to make painting a breeze. One of these could help him get the shed painted in an afternoon.
Multi-tool
The most fun tool on the planet – the Leatherman, is an all-in-one tool. Including knives, bit drivers, pliers, crimpers, wire strippers, scissors and a saw, this multi-tool will bring out the Boy Scout in every man.
Pressure hose
Does the dad in your life love hosing down the concrete and keeping everything clean? Get him a pressure washer. It’s a great way to wash the car, clean the paving, hose down external walls and power wash the decking. Plus, it saves water, too. He’ll never have to visit a car wash again.
Work radio
If Dad loves to work outside all day long, consider getting him a tough-as-nails work radio. Strong and durable, one of these will let him follow the footy or cricket all year long, and keep him company while he tinkers in the shed all day.
Tool box
From a mighty storage unit on wheels, to a simple table top box, a well-designed tool box will help get the clutter off the workbench. Think of it as a gentle hint to encourage him to sort out the shed.
BBQ tools
For the end of the day, a handyman likes nothing better than firing up the barbie and enjoying the fruits of his labour over a cold drink or two. Consider getting him a first class tool set for the BBQ, and maybe pair it with a jokey apron that only a dad could love.
