What are the differences between self-serviced apartments and hotels?
When booking your next trip, should you choose a self-serviced apartment or a hotel room? Here are some of the common differences between the two to help you make your decision.
Self-serviced apartments
Self-serviced apartments usually have a fully equipped kitchen and laundry, lounge room and one or two bedrooms or more, so are particularly convenient for families with young children and those with food allergies, as meals are able to be prepared in the apartment. Self-serviced apartments are particularly suited for longer stays and therefore are on average 30% less expensive than hotel rooms. Most self-serviced apartments still provide daily or weekly housekeeping services.
Hotels
By comparison, hotels usually have single rooms with an en-suite bathroom, mini bar, a desk and possibly an area with an occasional chair. A hotel must have a restaurant or designated eating area serving breakfast daily, and dinner most evenings. A good hotel will also offer room service, business facilities, concierge and even facilities such as a swimming pool and gymnasium. The services and facilities offered at hotels are generally more extensive than those provided by self serviced apartments, although this isn’t always the case.
Choose accommodation to suit your requirements
Generally speaking, if you are looking for a home away from home and are happy to cook for yourself, a serviced apartment is a good choice. If you are looking for the convenience of access to a variety of services and facilities, then a hotel will be more appropriate.
