What sort of warranty should I expect?
Index
A warranty is usually a legal document that provides assurance by one party to another party that specific conditions will happen or are true.
The standard manufacturer’s warranty on a musical instruments assures consumers than the instrument they are buying will not be defective.
The standard warranty on a new musical instrument will vary for different states and territories and also for different manufacturers. Usually, however, they will cover the conditions under which a product may be considered under the warranty, and the duration for which that warranty lasts (usually a number of years or months). It will sometimes also contain special conditions for certain periods of the warranty, particularly for certain pieces of the instrument which may only be under warranty in the first year for example.
Retail warranties on all products are covered by consumer law in Australia, therefore you can expect the same sort of warranty for your musical instrument as you would for an appliance or piece of furniture. Sometimes, in addition to the minimum warranty conditions required by law, musical instrument retailers will offer additional levels of warranty on some products; these additional warranties may need to be purchased.
When you are buying a musical instrument, ask the retailer about what sort of warranty covers the instrument, including all the details – before you pay for anything.
