Need a plumber in Melbourne? Here are our recommendations
Index
Whether it’s a blocked toilet, leaky sink, or a weird smell emanating from the laundry room, a local plumber is your superhero in waiting. But not all plumbers are one and the same, so how do you find the best in the biz to get your issue sorted in a jiffy? Here’s what we recommend.
1. Do plenty of online research ?
What an age we live in where we no longer have to go door-knocking the neighbours for business recommendations. These days, virtually everything is reviewed online, and that means you don’t have to leave anything to chance.
Have a browse through plumbers’ directory listings and websites online to read their reviews and testimonials before taking the plunge (pun intended). There are more than 2,500 plumbers in Melbourne on Yellow Online alone (and loads of reviews) so there’s no shortage of options when it comes to finding the right person for the job.
2. Check their list of plumbing services ?
While most plumbers in Melbourne are well-versed in common jobs like unblocking blocked drains or changing tap washers, if you need specialty work done or a bigger job taken care of (like relocation of a drain), make sure to vet your shortlist so you know that whoever you end up choosing has relevant experience.
If you need a plumber fast or out of hours, look for one that offers 24-hour emergency services.
3. Make sure they have the right qualifications ?
There are two types of plumbers in Australia: registered and licensed. Registered plumbers have completed training like a Certificate III in Plumbing at TAFE. Licensed plumbers hold licences in one or a number of classes like drainage, gas-fitting, fire protection, etc. and generally have a higher level of knowledge in those areas.
As part of your online research process, you can check a business’ qualifications and licences either via their Yellow Pages listing or the Service NSW website.
4. Check their catchment area ?️
Most plumbers in Melbourne have service areas that they work in and may charge more if they need to travel outside their usual catchment area.
Find a plumber that works in your local area to avoid any unnecessary additional charges on the job.
5. Get a quote from a few businesses ?
It’s a good idea to get a quote in writing from any tradesperson before work commences, and plumbers are no exception.
Most plumbers will offer free quotes on request, which means it’ll cost you nothing to do a price comparison between your shortlisted businesses and make sure you know what the job is going to cost upfront.
