Where will I be treated?

Consultations are available at all of our practices. Surgical procedures can be performed at most of our practices under local anaesthetic or at one of our preferred private hospitals under general anaesthetic. Our surgeons can also offer a general anaesthetic to uninsured patients at our main practice at the Wesley Medical Centre.

Do I have to take time off work following my surgery?

Depending on the type of surgery you may need between 1 and 7 days off work for most surgeries. This can be discussed at your initial consultation appointment and medical certificates provided following surgery.

Can I drive myself home following surgery?

If you are having a procedure under a general anaesthetic you will require an adult to care for you and drive you home. You legally cannot drive for 24 hours following a general anaesthetic. If your procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic you may be fine to drive yourself home, however you may wish to bring another adult with you if you are unsure.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Please bring all relevant x-rays and a current referral as well as your medicare card, private Health insurance details or DVA card.

What are the costs involved?

Please call our rooms on 07 3871 1188 to arrange a consultation appointment. Our friendly staff will inform you of the cost for this appointment. You will receive an estimate for surgery at the time of your initial consultation.

Do I need a special diet following surgery?

Please refer to the post-operative instructions sheet on this site. Our surgeons will advise you to avoid some types of foods and chewing firm foods if possible in the initial post-operative recovery, particularly while you are numb.

Is my surgeon a specialist?

Yes. All of our surgeons hold specialist registration in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Do I need a referral?

Yes. As with all specialist services a referral is required from your general dentist, doctor or other specialist for you to receive a rebate from medicare or your health fund.

Can I still be treated if I don’t have private health insurance?

Yes. The initial consultation, once paid, can be claimed through Medicare. An estimate will be provided to you on the day of your initial consultation. If you are having your surgery under local anaesthetic then your cost for surgery will be considerably cheaper compared to a general anaesthetic. Our surgeons can offer you a general anaesthetic in our rooms which will reduce the expense compared to having your surgery undertaken in a private hospital.

Do I need to stop any medications prior to surgery?

Your surgeon will advise you at the time of initial consultation if any of your regular medications need to be ceased and how long prior to the procedure this should occur. If you are unsure please contact our rooms.
