What happens at my first appointment?
At your first visit with us we will get to know you and your mouth & provide you with a thorough examination with one of our dentists. This will include a large x-ray (OPG) which shows us all your teeth and jaw joints and two smaller x-rays inside the mouth, these allow us to give you a full assessment.
How often should I clean in between my teeth?
Every day! The most popular way of cleaning in between teeth is with floss. Although some patients prefer to use small interdental brushes called Piksters. Another way is with a mechanical flosser called AirFloss. There are lots of options on the market to experiment with so have a chat with your hygienist and find what works best for you!
Do you offer estimates for treatment?
We certainly do. We will provide you with a full estimate and treatment plan at your initial examination with us, or at your regular 6 monthly check up & hygiene visit. This will have the item numbers on for your treatment so you can take it along to your health fund provider and check the gap you will incur at your next appointment.
How old should my child be for their first visit?
We encourage parents to bring in their children from about 2 years old, this way they can have a ride in the chair and get used to the dental surroundings. Children usually start developing teeth from around 6 months old (sometimes earlier!) so when they appear go out and get a soft baby toothbrush to encourage brushing from an early age.
How often should I have my routine check up & clean?
We generally suggest visiting us every 6 months . As everyone’s needs are different if you need more or less frequent visits your dentist & hygienist will discuss this with you.
Are x-rays necessary?
Yes, x-rays are our eyes before & during treatment. They allow us to diagnose decay in between teeth & under fillings which we wouldn’t be able to see normally. Also we can see the roots of the teeth checking for any infection and your bone levels which anchor your teeth into the jaw.
