      Dr Stephen Philcox is an interventional gastroenterologist who practices general gastroenterology and hepatology.

      Dr Stephen Philcox and Dr Robert Gibson provides specialist gastroenterology and hepatology services to both public and private patients with consultation rooms located on the grounds of the Hunter Valley Private Hospital in Shortland, 15 minutes from the centre of Newcastle. Endoscopic procedures are performed either at Hunter Valley Private Hospital or John Hunter Hospital.

      The types of endoscopic procedures performed include:Gastroscopy Colonoscopy Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) Video Capsule Endoscopy (VCE) Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) Enteral Stenting

      In addition to this, Dr S Philcox has a special interest in interventional endoscopic techniques such as ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound guided procedures and gastrointestinal cancer, particularly pancreaticobiliary and oesophageal, while Dr Gibson has developed particular expertise in liver disease.

      Both physicians in the practice offer consultation for symptoms affecting the gastrointestinal tract. This includes but is not limited to assessment & management of reflux symptoms, undifferentiated abdominal pain, nausea & vomiting, variation in bowel function, gastrointestinal bleeding, coeliac disease & inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening & abnormalities in liver.
