Founded in 2008, Newcastle Psychology & Health (NPH) is a generalist Private Practice owned and managed by Clinical Psychologist, Justyn Hyde. Situated in the suburb of Charlestown, the Practice sees people form all walks of life, adults and young adults. With Psychologists, Clinical Psychologist, and a Family & Relationships Counselor, NPH is very skilled at assisting when life gets tough and challenging, and when people become unwell. All our clinicians are experienced, caring and compassionate. We also have special interests including LGBTQ, anxiety, trauma, perinatal needs, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, and adult ADHD assessment. Our theme is 'a safe harbour'.

Do I have to be registered for Medicare for the rebate to be allocated to me?
If you already have a bank account linked to your Medicare card, then we can process your rebate online. If you do not have an account linked, please talk to reception when you are at the Practice about a different method to claim your rebate.
Can I use both Medicare and private health?
No. The Australian Government has specified that you can use one or the other (or just pay yourself with no rebate at all) but not both.
How is payment made at Newcastle Psychology & Health?
Payment can be made with either cash or card (credit or debit). Full EFTPOS facilities are available.
How long is a mental health plan active for?
Twelve months. After this time, the MHP expires.
Do you conduct any Career Specific Counselling?
Yes, Dr Edser has a comprehensive understanding of the unique issues that confront the teaching profession. He regularly sees many teachers at NPH from both primary and high school and from state and private school sectors. He knows the expectations that are placed on teachers by the school system, principals and deputies, colleagues and from society in general.
Do you conduct any Psychology & Health LGBT eCounselling?
Yes, Dr Edser is the author of acclaimed book - Being Gay Being Christian (2012, Exisle) and is a sought-after speaker and workshop facilitator dealing with LGBT issues of all varieties. His book examines the science and psychology of being gay.
Are sessions covered by private health insurance?
Yes, although minimally. The rebates from private health insurance differ depending on what kind of cover you have purchased. None of them offers as much as the better access to mental health scheme.
Can I receive my Medicare rebate back at my appointment?
Yes, the Medicare rebate can be processed by reception staff following payment.
Do you conduct any seminars?
Yes, we do! Please check our website for upcoming seminars.
Do I need a mental health plan to claim Medicare?
Yes. Without a MHP, Medicare will not pay you a rebate.
