About the Shire The Colac Otway Shire is one of the most picturesque municipalities in Victoria, covering a diverse area from volcanic lakes, craters and plains in the north, through the hinterland forests of the Otway Ranges to the Great Ocean Road coastline. Colac is the key industrial, commercial and service centre for the Shire and surrounding region with a population of 12,000. Apollo Bay is the other major urban centre with a permanent population of 1,000 that swells to over 15,000 during the summer season.Statistics about the Shire History Business & Investment Recreation & Tourism Information for New Residents About the Council Colac Otway Shire has seven councillors representing the ratepayers. They meet on a regular basis including at monthly Council meetings which are also open to the public. Council meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The Unit provides a variety public health services including the enforcement of State laws. The Unit also works to enhance community health by developing health promotion and education programs. Any concerns or requests or consumer complaints about food poisoning, food adulteration or poor food handing, establishing a food business, hairdressers, beauty establishments, tattooists, swimming pools and spas, noise issues, immunisation sessions, pollution complaints comes under the jurisdiction of this unit.
