How long do dentures last?
Dentures are expected to last up to 8-10 years before needing replacement. During this time, you may require a reline within 3-4 years. Denture teeth will wear down and your mouth will change shape.
Should I sleep with my dentures?
If you do want to wear your dentures at night, it’s imperative to maintain good oral hygiene, and clean your dentures and mouth thoroughly. This prevents any irritation, odour or disease that can stem from poor oral hygiene management. Removing your dentures at night gives your gums, bones, and other denture bearing tissues a chance to relax and recover.
Can I eat after getting dentures?
If you’re a first time denture wearer, it will take time for your tongue and mouth to adjust to your new dentures, eating will take some practice. We advise that you begin with softer foods and cut your food into small pieces. Over time you will adjust and return to your normal eating habits.
Should I use denture adhesive?
If your dentures feel loose or cause irritation and sores, it is advised that you contact us for an assessment. Adhesive can be used to increase the feeling of security and give you peace of mind. However, adhesive is not the solution for ill-fitting dentures.
How do I look after dentures?
It is imperative to be very careful while cleaning your dentures to avoid dropping and breaking them. You can brush your dentures over a towel or half-filled sink. You need to brush your dentures daily with a denture paste, do not use toothpaste. Brushing your dentures before soaking them helps to remove any food debris.
