Types Of Crowns There are many different types of crowns. Professional skill and experience mean the correct crown is available for your individual tooth requirements. Gold crowns: Advantages include a strong crown with similar hardness and wear property as a natural tooth. Porcelain-over-metal crowns: for situations where color and strength are important. These are harder than normal teeth Tooth coloured crowns: for situations where color properties are the highest priority. Metal crowns - prefabricated: these are crowns adapted for deciduous(baby) teeth and are applied in a single visit.

What is Endodontic or Root Canal treatment?
Root canal treatment is a processes of cleaning and then filling the inside cavity of the tooth that is normally occupied with nerves and blood vessels. This is the treatment for a 'dead' tooth. Endodontic treatment and Root Canal treatment usually refer to the same thing. ('Endo' means inside and 'odont' is a tooth.)
What is the difference between x-rays and radiographs?
The term "x-rays" and "radiographs" are used interchangeable in most medical and dental settings. Technically the x-rays are the type of radiation used to produce the image that the dentist views. The actual image is called a radiograph.
What is Trigeminal neuralgia?
This is a condition involving the 5th Cranial Nerve -the Trigeminal Nerve. The condition is also called tic douloureux. It is said to be the most painful condition known.
Who gets Trigeminal neuralgia?
It occurs more often in females and usually in older people although it can occur at any age.

A crown is an artifical covering for a tooth. When a dentist makes a crown for a tooth the majority of the natural crown of the tooth is replaced. The term "cap" may be used instead of a crown.
What is gingivitis?
Gingivitis is inflammation of the gingivae (gums).
What is periodontal disease or gum disease?
Gum disease (also called periodontal disease) is an infection of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth. Gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Because it is usually painless many people do are not aware that they have gum disease. In the general population of Australia about 10% have advanced or severe gum disease, 80% have mild to moderate disease and 10 % have no gum disease.
What causes gum disease?
Gum disease is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on the teeth. Bacteria creates toxins that both damage the gums and result in a reaction by the body which results in loss of bone and supporting tissue of the teeth. Gum disease is still subject to intense research. Scientists are looking at ways to kill off the offending bacteria and how to make the bodies reactions to the toxins less severe.
What are the symptoms Trigeminal neuralgia?
It consist of episodes of intense, stabbing pain that people describe like an electrical shock. It may involve the lips, eyes, side of the nose, forehead and jaw. It usually affects only one side of the face. It usually lasts a short time e.g seconds to minutes but may progress to more constant pain - often described as aching or burning.
