FAQschevron down

Does it matter if I have different tyres on each wheel?

Radial ply and diagonal ply tyres have different handling characteristics and it can be dangerous to "mix" them on your car. It can also be dangerous to mix tyres of different sizes or aspect ratios. You should consult your Local Tyrepower Pro for specific advice.

What are "Run Flat Tyres"?

Some car manufacturers have started to equip their vehicles with run flat tyres, also known as mobility tyres. These tyres do as the name suggest - they are able to continue to run safely in the event of sudden or gradual deflation. When fitted with run flat tyres your vehicle can continue moving despite a loss of tyre pressure and is able to function even when there is little or no pressure.

How do I know how much to spend on tyres?

The old adage "you get what you pay for" could have been invented for tyres choice. Calculate the total price for your tyre purchase and divide that by the kilometres of service. This will give you the cost per kilometre. You'll quickly see that the better tyres are, the better value.

When are Tyres considered not roadworthy?

Tyres are considered to be un-roadworthy at 1.6mm minimum tread depth. In wet conditions 3.0mm or less tread means a significant loss of wet traction due to shallower grooves and channels.

Do you have packages for tyres to match the wheels that I want?

We sure do. Our team are expert in advising what tyres are best suited to the Wheels you choose. We often have great package deals that suit the best match but we can tailor one for just about every requirement.

How do I know if the correct tyres are on my car?

You can check this by referring to the tyre placard fitted to the car which indicates the correct size, speed rating and load capacity, as well as recommended inflation pressures. The placard is fitted to all vehicles manufactured since 1973 and is usually contained in the glove box, on the driver's door pillar or under the front bonnet.

What do the numbers & letters on the wall of a tyre mean?

eg. 205/65R15 95H. 205 indicates the width of the tyre in mm. 65 indicates its aspect ratio, (65 indicates the height is 65% of its width). R indicates radial ply construction. 15 indicates the diameter of the wheel rim in inches. 95H is a symbol indicating the maximum load capacity and speed, (95 represents a maximum load of 690kg per tyre; H represents a maximum speed of 210km/h).
