**WARNING regarding Luke Byrne – Especially to women, and men who cares about ethics**
I am posting this review and taking action primarily not just for the money that Luke Byrne overcharged me, but as an action against a person who not only cheats in his services, but then bully and attempt to gaslight and manipulate his way out, when he was caught and called out. His character is questionable – unprofessional and unethical. He assumed that he could bully me because I am a woman and he could get away with it. He would never have done the same to a male client.
Please read the written evidences in the images attached for the background.
In summary:
1. From the day I called Luke Byrne to organise the water detection, to the day he actually carried out the work - was 4 days after.
2. His rates were clearly provided in writing – if the work is required to be done on the next business day, then its considered as a “STANDARD” rate - $450/hr. But if the work is carried out after that, it is considered as “flexible”, which is $300/hr.
3. At my house, without providing the invoice first and discussing what he had charged me for - he tapped a number onto his mobile and forced his phone into my face to pay. He said “are you going to pay or not”. I was caught off guard and put under pressure on the spot, especially at such an early hour in the morning, whilst still not fully mentally awake and alert. And I was alone. I felt scared of him, and reluctantly tapped my mobile wallet against his phone to pay.
4. He only sent the invoice after he left my house.
5. Upon reviewing the invoice, I realised that he had charged me for the “STANDARD” rate, whilst it should clearly be a “flexible” rate.
6. I called him straight away, and mentioned that he had charged me the wrong rate, and asked for a refund of the overcharged amount.
7. Upon being called out, He tried to bully and gaslight me, by pulling off the following 3 tricks, in attempt to manipulate his way out of it: 1. His 1st trick:. He says “I started work early just for you, so I should charge you more”. My response – “I never requested for 5.45am, it was the ONLY time you gave me, and I had to accommodate you. You didn’t give me any other options”. 2. His 2nd trick in gaslighting was “I worked on a Saturday for you, that is not a business day, so I should charge you more”. My response – Originally you were going to do the work on Thursday, then you changed it to Friday. And on late Thursday night, you called to cancel the job for Friday again, and asked if you could do the job on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. I had to choose Saturday to accommodate your last minute request. So you cannot charge me more. 3. His 3rd attempt – “I cant make the decision, I have to speak to my boss”. My response “ You are the boss!”. He says “how do you know?”. I say “its very clear from the communications that you have been making all the decisions, and your name is on the invoice as the ‘Business Owner’”.
3 times, I have contacted him and requested that he refund the money he had overcharged me. He still have not refunded the money to me. Clearly, he knew exactly what he was doing – and not showing any remorse for his unethical and unprofessional behaviour.
p.s. To add salt to the wound - RAC insurance said they cannot use the comments in his invoice, as they are inadequate and not sufficient as a report. RAC said that he had failed to complete a full report with adequate photos and details that professional leak detectors would normally provide.
