Do I need a referral from a GP?

No, osteopaths are primary health care practitioners so a referral from your doctor is not required. Osteopaths are not only trained to diagnose musculoskeletal complaints but general medical problems that may need conventional attention. Your osteopath may ask for your permission to contact your doctor to keep them informed of your progress.

Is an osteopathic treatment safe to have during pregnancy?

Osteopathy has one of the best safety records of any of the manual therapies, and with the pregnancy techniques used are carefully selected in order to minimise risk. The comfort of the mother is always a priority, and at Back Into Action Osteopathic Group, we have equipment such as special pregnancy pillows that minimise discomfort while being treated.

How can osteopathic treatment help my baby?

There are many conditions that respond well to the gentle form of osteopathic treatment used to treat babies and these include colic, reflux, effects of a difficult birth, ear infections and sleep difficulties.

Is osteopathy more than just "bones"?

Yes, osteopaths are musculoskeletal specialists who are trained to diagnose and treat all manner of problems relating to your body. These include back and neck pain, migraine, sports or dance injuries etc. The majority of people would be familiar with the success of osteopathy in treating back pain. However, it can be of benefit to the entire musculoskeletal system and the major organs that relate to it.
