The Sherlock Holmes on Collins Street opened in November, 1985. The hostelry has been extremely well received, as have its comestibles, ales wines and spirits. So much so that the worst criticism has been that the establishment is too small for the large numbers of discerning citizens who wish to avail themselves of the sundry attractions which this unique tavern affords.
We welcome you here and counsel the joy of Temperance (not the glum, grey abstinence). Enjoy the delights of our table, the wondrous products of the brewer, large or small, those of the winery and the distiller of sundry and glowing spirits.
The Sherlock Holmes holds a 7 day a week, 24 hour a day licence and as such, can host private functions for between 50 and 120 people on a Saturday or Sunday.
The Mystery Is Solved With 19 different beers and ciders on tap and lunch and dinner on offer from Monday to Saturday, The Sherlock Holmes Inn and DrWatson’s Bar in the heart of the city will be your finest discoveries! Whether you’re planning after-work drinks and snacks, a night out with friends, or a more formal function, we have a variety of bars to suit you.

I like the sherlock holmes because it is a bit of a surprise being in a basement but still light and cheery. Food is very nice and the beers are tastey.
It can bet very crowded on a friday night early or before a game but outside of those times a good place to settle in for a good night, particularly in winter

There is a great atmosphere here. It is a small english style pub in a basement off collins st.
That may not sound appealing but it is. It is done up really well and the food is excellent. THe only draw backs is there is not much room so either go off peak or get there early.
Also all the beers are the common english exports. It would be good to get some real ales in english pubs in Melbourne.
