What should I do if I am involved in an accident?
By law you must render any assistance if anyone is injured. Exchange driver & owner details which should include name & address, make & registration number of vehicle, & insurance details. If there are any witnesses to the accident make sure you get their details including a phone number. Always handy to take a few photos of the accident scene & make any notes while fresh in your mind.
What should I do if I have had children in safety seats?
If your car has been involved in an accident & your children were secured in safety seats, they should be replaced as soon as possible & you should contact your insurance company & the safety seat manufacturer. In most cases the safety seats are left in the vehicle for the insurance assessor to inspect the safety seats to ascertain the brand & value of the seats.
Should I call the Police?
Police only have to attend an accident if someone is injured, if there is property damage & owner or person in charge of that property is not in attendance. If there is a dispute about who is at fault, or if the accident is a road hazard to other motorists, or if you feel something isn't right you should notify Police & they will let you know if they can attend.
Should I drive my car after an accident?
Unless the vehicle has been involved in a very light accident we would recommend you have the car towed to a repairer of your choice, or towed back to the towing depot & your insurer will arrange to move the car to a repairer. Driving a damaged vehicle after an accident may not be the safest option as there could be underlying damage that may compromise the safe handling of the vehicle.
