How many times a year should I have my house treated for termites?
A common misconception is that termite control involves a yearly application. Termite inspections, not treatment, can be performed annually to confirm the effectiveness of the termite protection and to identify potential changes in and around your home that could be conducive to termite infestations. Termiticide applied to the soil around the outside of the foundation should remain effective against termites for many years. The length of time between treatments.
Is a termite control treatment safe for people and pets in the house - or do we have to leave for several hours?
Applying our preferred liquid termiticide to the soil around and under the foundation will not expose people or pets inside the house to treatment. Modern termiticides are essentially odourless and are used at a concentration that is effective against termites, but is not a threat to humans or animals.
What if damage continues?
As the termites die & the mudding dries, what appears to be fresh damage may appear. In most cases this is not fresh damage but just the damage being exposed through the drying out process. If at any stage you have any concerns of the management program or believe there may be new damage, do not hesitate to call us. Swarmings can occur around your structure in the warmer months or when there is high humidity or lots of rain. If you find a number of insects inside your house call us immediately.
Why is this program different to what you did for my friend?
Each building and the risk of re-infestation must be looked at as an individual case. The best possible method to manage the termite infestation at your property will also steer us to what products and management plan is best suited to your property.
When you start work will they go somewhere else in the building?
Generally no, the action of the termiticides used tends to confuse the cycle of the termite as a group and in some cases blocking their drive to feed.
Why the steps?
If you do not plan termite management programs you plan to fail. The steps are the only way to reduce the risk of trapping or missing termites in your building. It is all important to monitor the process and where required change the direction or the tools used.
How long does it take to eliminate or control a termite colony?
Individual termites can be affected within a few days after consuming the bait or coming in contact with the liquid termiticide, but depending on treatment choice it may take several months before an entire colony is controlled or eliminated. This varies depending on the time of year, location, local environmental factors, the number of termites and termite species.
What if the treatment traps termites in my house?
It is the processes in the management program itself that minimises the risk of this happening especially with the use of the newer termiticides which are non repellent. With these termiticides it allows termites to enter the treated zone (soil) where they unknowingly pick up the chemical & pass it amongst each other during the grooming/cleaning process. Through the transfer or domino effect the termites weaken the soil fungi and microorganisms spread through the colony.
How long will the chemicals last?
Labels of termiticides state the expected life of the chemical in a perfect situation & vary from product to product. Threre are many variables such as environmental factors & site conditions that determine how long the treatment will be effective. Generally speaking in SE Qld or sub tropical climate you can expect a 5 year retreatment cycle. In our more than 40 yrs experience & extensive data analysis we know that offering beyond a 5yr treatment cycle is not in the best interest of our clients
Are the chemicals used safe?
Modern insecticides used for the management of termites are the safest range that we have ever had available. Used in conjunction with the safe methods of application, they are an ultra-low hazard to humans, dogs, cats and other mammals and do not have a solvent based odour or emit airborne residues or fumes. Our preferred choice of termiticide is registered as a low hazard insecticide with a CAUTION notation on the registered label.
