ECA offers industry leading diagnostic services including high frequency (UBM) ultrasound and electroretinography and ocular tear film analysis with our recently acquired Tear Film Analyser. ECA practices out of 2 Sydney locations - Artarmon and Yagoona. The team also travels, usually once a month to other areas around NSW such as Newcastle, Central Coast, Orange, Bathurst, Lithgow, Blue Mountains, South Coast as well as Canberra.

ECA also has a professional team of veterinary nurses and administrative staff, extending the high quality of service across all areas of the practice. Furthermore ECA works with human ophthalmologists to assist with both retinal and corneal surgeries, as well as specialist veterinary anesthetists to provide the best service possible.

Do we need an appointment or do you allow drop-ins?

A consultation with Eye Clinic For Animals is by appointment only and clients also need a referral from practitioners. Please do not turn up unexpectedly at one of our clinics as our specialists may not be able to see you at that time.

How long does an eye examination on pets usually take?

An eye examination will usually take between 10 minutes to 30 minutes. We may need to perform other diagnostic tests as well. Our specialised knowledge and equipment allow a thorough eye exam much more than a general veterinarian can offer. This is after all what we have been trained to do.

Can you do home visits or a trip to the country?

Jeff and Cameron do trips outside of Sydney. Generally we will go out West via the Blue Mountains, Lithgow, Bathurst and Orange on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of the month, Newcastle and the Central Coast on the second Wednesday of the month and Wollongong and the South Coast to Albion Park and then onto Bowral, Moss Vale, Goulburn and Canberra the third Tuesday & Wednesday of the month.

What do veterinary ophthalmologists not deal with?

They do not deal with anything other than the eyes, in spite of how trivial something may be. This includes but isn't limited to flea control, worming, vaccination, desexing, teeth cleaning etc. Therefore, please do not ask your veterinary ophthalmologist to treat something other than the eye. If there are other issues that need to be addressed, then you will be referred back to your local vet.

Do you only deal with animal eye problems?

Veterinary ophthalmologists only deal with eye problems. They do not deal with anything other than the eyes, in spite of how trivial something may be. If there are other issues that need to be addressed, then you will be referred back to your local veterinarian for treatment.

Do you prescribe medication for pets?

We are able to supply referring veterinarians with various medications which we compound or have a compounding pharmacist do for us. This includes but is not limited to tacrolimus ointment, cyclosporine drops, sodium chloride gel, idoxuridine and itraconazole ointment.

What services do you offer?

We are veterinary ophthalmology specialists. Generally speaking, we will not do things that general practitioners ordinarily do such as vaccinate or worm animals, scale teeth under anesthesia, provide flea treatments etc. This is not our area of expertise.

talented and caring clever surgeons

We've had 5 lots of cataract surgeries done on 5 different dogs by Dr Kelly Caruso. From the 1st to the most recent, Kelly has been compassionate, caring and a brilliant surgeon. 2 of these dogs were 'rescue' dogs, Kelly even gave us a special cut rate for the rescues - these dogs have all been aged 11 or over and have had advanced cataracts by the time they came to Kelly - she's taken the time to discuss with us the pros and cons and risks - Kelly has given us gold and I cannot recommend her more highly.
