FAQs

  • What age does my puppy or kitten have to be to get desexed?

In most cases, your pet should be at least six months of age. If your pet is showing signs of aggression, or behavioural problems prior to six months, desexing can be performed earlier. Your vet is the best person to advise you on this.

  • What age can I start my puppy on heartworm prevention?

Heartworm prevention can be started at 6 weeks old, using oral tablets such as Heartguard Plus. Once your puppy reaches 6 months of age, they can be given the Proheart injection.

  • When do I worm my puppy or kitten?

Worming should be done at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 weeks old, then every 3 months after that.

  • What age do I get my rabbit vaccinated or desexed?

Vaccinations are given at 12 and 16 weeks, with annual vaccinations administered after this age. Desexing is normally done at 6 months.

  • What should I be feeding my puppy or kitten?

Puppies and kittens should be on specially designed puppy or kitten food from recommended brands such as hills pet nutrition, royal canin or advance, until 12 months of age. This ensures their dietary needs are met. After this age they generally transition to adult food.

  • What age can I start my puppy on heartworm prevention?

Heartworm prevention can be started at 6 weeks old, using oral tablets such as heartguard plus. Once your puppy reaches 6 months of age, they can be given the proheart injection.
