Dr Parkin is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist visiting patients at Warners Bay Private Hospital, Gosford Private Hospital, Brisbane Waters Private Hospital, as well as Wyong & Gosford Public Hospitals. Having graduated from the NSW Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Distinction) in 1984.

Dr Parkin undertook medical and surgical training at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 1989. Dr Parkin trained at Royal North Shore Hospital and Westmead Hospital in Sydney and received Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1995. He spent over a year at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, England as Senior Medical Registrar & Locum Consultant and returned to the Central Coast in 1997 as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.

Dr Parkin is a conjoint lecturer at the University of Newcastle & is actively involved in student teaching & GP education. Dr Parkin was the head of the Medical Advisory Committee at Tuggerah Lakes Private Hospital since its opening in 2019. Dr Parkin specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of a range of disorders affecting the gastrointestinal tract, including disorders of the liver, gallbladder, biliary tree and pancreas.

Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy involves the passage of a thin flexible tube through the stomach via the mouth, allowing the inspection of the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and duodenum (small intestine) and for biopsies and other therapeutic procedures to be performed. The test is performed under sedation, and most patients have no recall of the procedure at all.

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy involves the passage of a thin flexible tube into the bowel via the back passage, allowing the inspection of the large bowel and for biopsies and other therapeutic procedures to be performed. The test is performed under sedation and most patients have no recall of the procedure at all.
